Better coffee ritual with Lily Mazzarella & Amy Charnay

Five years ago I went to one of my favorite herbal conferences. The organizers ran a small herbal business products contest.

The first place winner for the most innovative product was a preparation called Reishi Roast. I talked with the creators about the benefits of their formula and ended up taking some home. I fell in love with their creation so much that today I’m sharing with you my conversation about this formula, their inspiration and so much more.

My guests are Lily Mazzarella and Amy Charnay.  Both Lily and Amy are herbalists, nutritionists and teachers.

Lily is also a whole foods chef and a writer.  Her journey for healing her own complex health challenges sparked an interest in herbal medicine, nutrition, and other modalities of true healing.

Lily is the formulator and creator of Farmacopia’s line of Signature Tinctures, Bitters, Adaptogen Powders and Superfoods, and as I mentioned earlier co-founder and formulator of Reishi Roast Original and Reishi Roast Elixir.

Today, she can be found in her clinical practice at Farmacopia, teaching on the road or at the California School of Herbal Studies, serving as a Community Project Expert Advisor on herbal medicine, botanizing in the desert, and engaging in urban wildfire recovery.   Amy comes from the mountains of upstate NY. After college, she faced serious health challenges including chronic pain from an accident. Finding little relief in conventional medicine, Amy turned to a variety of complementary modalities including yoga and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and herbal medicine.

Successfully managing her chronic pain and health challenges, Amy has worked for over a decade as a scientist, researcher, and educator.

She consults with companies as a Formulator and Quality Control specialist and teaches as an Adjunct Professor for the MUIH Herbal Medicine Masters of Science program and at the California School of Herbal Studies.

By the end of this episode, I hope you’ll be inspired by Amy’s and Lily’s approach to successfully and seamlessly integrating herbs into the foods you eat.
